Pops Update
Our number of core contributors remained pretty much flat throughout 2019. Where we hired new people it was either generally to replace outgoing contributors, or to add new skill sets where we now needed new expertise. Nim was the only team that grew significantly this year, owing to increasing our focus on research
Turnover has been pretty significant looking at the year as a whole, with 51.7% of core contributors (33 people) leaving Status. The bulk of this turnover happened in the first month of the year, with notice periods of those let go over cryptowinter formally coming to an end. Just to give you a benchmark, turnover in tech companies is typically around ~15%.
In the bottom left, you can see a breakdown of reasons for departures, with cost reduction and role redundancy making up over half of the cases. The average tenure for a CC is 1.7 years.
Our 61 core contributors are spread throughout the world, with the highest concentration in Europe and Africa. We have core contributors in 24 different countries
We received 2,247 job applications in 2019, converted those into 12 new hires, with 69% of applicants being open to payment in crypto (up from 50% in 2018)
Our Top Kudos recipient for 2019 is Jonny
a huge thank you to every single core contributor
